Whether you are PCSing to Colorado Springs this summer or visiting the area before your move, there are many events that showcase the charm, adventure and beauty of the Pike’s Peak region. Here are a few of the annual summer events happening in the coming weeks in Colorado Springs.
11 am to 5 pm
Spend your day in the quaint town of Manitou Springs and enjoy generous tastings from 25 Colorado wineries. All wine tasting participants must be 21 years of age or older. Admission is free to designated drivers that do not partake in wine sampling.
Delicious food from local vendors is available, and you can shop at the various wine-related booths located throughout Memorial Park. Live entertainment begins at noon and continues through the afternoon. This is the perfect summer event to explore the unique and charming town of Manitou Springs.
Teller County Fairgrounds
With special events like the Western Street Dance and the Chuckwagon Cook-Off, the Cripple Creek Rodeo has fun for the whole family. The rodeo itself features events such as bareback riding, bull riding, ladies’ barrel racing and many more traditional rodeo events. You can eat delicious food, enjoy the beautiful scenery and have some good old-fashioned summer fun!
9 am – 5 pm both days
Colorado Springs Airport
Airstrip Attack is a half-mile, side-by-side roll race and trap speed competition that features more than 200 of the fastest, most powerful street cars in the country. Participants compete for the title of the Mile High Victor. Thousands of automotive and speed enthusiasts attend this event as spectators, and dozens of the industry’s top manufacturers, personalities and performance and lifestyle organizations come out to exhibit at the event.
9 pm – 11:59 pm
Garden of the Gods
The 24th annual Starlight Spectacular is a fun and family-friendly nighttime bicycle ride in the Garden of the Gods that is suitable for most ages and abilities. Kids as young as 8-years-old and adults in their 80s take part in this event. Many participants truly get into the spirit of the Wild West and dress in western wear for this fun and unique event.
Downtown Cripple Creek
For more than 80 years, people from all over the world have come to downtown Cripple Creek for this chance to watch a donkey race inspired by the town’s resident donkey herd. These donkeys are believed to be distant relatives of the original donkeys from the days of the Gold Rush. In addition to the donkey race, there are games, food, live entertainment and lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy.
This action-packed weekend event features kayak, stand up paddle board, raft and river board competitions, along with other events that promote outdoor recreation and an active lifestyle. The festival takes place at the Whitewater Park in the western portion of Cañon City. The Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival also offers food and beer vendors, as well as entertainment for all ages. All of the money raised at the festival goes toward the continued expansion of the Whitewater Park, river restoration and other charitable causes. This is a feel-good event all around!
5 pm to 8 pm
These free events happen the first Friday of the month from April through December. Enjoy browsing the local art galleries and studios along W. Colorado Avenue in Historic Old Colorado City. Artwalks are free to the public and offer a great opportunity for finding that perfect piece of art for your new home. Make it a night out on the town and grab a delicious bite at one of the many Old Colorado City restaurants.
