Colorado Springs was just ranked as the #2 place to live in the United States by U.S. News & World Report! While this may come as no surprise for current Colorado Springs residents, if you’re PCSing to the region, this ranking proves that Colorado Springs is a fantastic place to invest in property!

Basis for the Ranking

U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best Places to Live in the United States ranks our nation’s 125 largest metropolitan areas based on affordability, job prospects and quality of life. This year’s ranking was determined in part by a public survey of thousands of people across the country to find out what qualities they consider important when settling in an area.

According to U.S. News & World Report, the methodology for the rankings also factors in data from the United States Census Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as their own rankings of the Best High Schools and Best Hospitals.

Austin, Texas, took the #1 spot for the second year in a row, Denver, Colorado, took the #3 spot, Des Moines, Iowa, moved up 5 spots to No. 4 and Fayetteville, Arkansas, rounded out the top five for the second year in a row.

Quality of Life

Colorado Springs jumped from the #11 spot in 2017 to the #2 spot this year due in large part to a booming job market and high quality of life scores. As stated by Kim Castro, executive editor at U.S. News, “When deciding on a place to settle down, it’s important to understand that where a person lives can impact their well-being. U.S. News created the Best Places to Live to highlight areas across the country that have the characteristics residents are looking for, including steady job growth and affordability. The top-ranked places are areas where citizens can feel the most fulfilled socially, physically and financially.”

Colorado Springs is known for its abundant outdoor recreational activities, a rich and vibrant arts and culture scene and relatively mild weather (yes, it’s true)! These factors definitely contributed to the region’s high quality of life scores.

Millennial Relocation

According to U.S. News & World Report, millennials comprise a large portion of the population who are relocating to other cities for better jobs and for an improved quality of life. Since research has shown that where you live can greatly impact your health, well-being and overall happiness, millennials are considering more and more factors as they decide where they want to live, work and raise families.

Happy and Healthy

It isn’t hard to see that Colorado as a state is a great place to live, considering that the #2 and #3 spots in the Best Places to Live rankings are Colorado Springs and Denver respectively. In fact, in another report, the annual Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index, Colorado was ranked #6 in the nation for health, happiness and well-being. For this study, more than 150,000 people from all over the country were surveyed about subjects such as motivation and purpose, social fulfillment, financial security, sense of community and physical well-being.
