Events for Nature and Outdoor Enthusiasts

13th Annual Bighorn Sheep Day
February 10, 2018 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center, Colorado Springs

During this event for the whole family, you can look for the Colorado state mammal in their natural habitat through high-powered telescopes.  There are wildlife viewing stations on the Visitor Center Terrace. In addition, you can take the free shuttle to an offsite viewing area on Mesa Road. Kids of all ages can learn fascinating animal facts, take guided nature walks, make crafts and hang out with live zoo animals.

Gallop in the Garden Free 5K Fun Run
Every Thursday 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center, Colorado Springs

These 5K events are a fun way to enjoy the great Colorado outdoors and get some fresh air and exercise. There are five phenomenal routes through Garden of the Gods Park and Rock Ledge Ranch that start and end at the Visitor & Nature Center.  Three routes are available every Thursday, with one being a designated stroller route. Kids are welcome, as are dogs on leashes!

After the run, you can stop by Fossil Craft Beer Company to enjoy one of their fine local brews or ginger ale.

Olympic Fanfare

Olympic Celebration
February 9, 2018 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Downtown Colorado Springs

Get in the Olympic spirit and head to downtown Colorado Springs for the opening of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The highlight of the evening will be the NBC broadcast of the Opening Ceremony from Pyeongchang on a 17-foot wide LCD television unit. This free event is the best way to enjoy the magnificent opening ceremonies.

An Event with Local Flavor

Colorado Farm & Art Market (CFAM)
February 18, 2018 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Cottonwood Center for the Arts

Colorado Farm & Art Market (CFAM) is an indoor farmer’s market where you can find local grass fed and organic meats, vegetables, eggs, canned goods and artisanal foods, as well as unique handmade art.

Not only are there 30 amazing CFAM vendors, but many of the talented Cottonwood artists open their studios the day of the market. There’s also a Kid’s Corner free art activity, food trucks and a coffee cart (weather permitting).

Art and Cultural Events

17th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration 
February 10, 2018 10 a.m. to 4 p.m
City Auditorium

The Colorado Springs Chinese Cultural Institute will ring in the Chinese New Year with their 17th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration.  Activities for this year will feature the traditional lion dance, Taiko, kung Fu demonstrations, traditional Chinese dances, Chinese yo-yo demonstrations and Chinese musical performances. “Chinatown” offers an assortment of Asian-themed merchants and a “Taste of China” offers various food vendors. Furthermore, cultural performances will take place on the Main Stage and in the “Teahouse” you can drink a cup of hot tea, relax and eat snacks while enjoying Chinese instrument performance, Tai Chi and many other traditional demonstrations.

Cripple Creek Ice Festival
February 9-18, 2018
City of Cripple Creek

The Cripple Creek Ice Festival is one of the most spectacular events in the Colorado Springs region. Come watch ice sculptors carve ice into beautiful works of art!  This year’s theme is Renaissance in Ice. Come dressed in your best Renaissance attire and join the fun!

The Cripple Creek Ice Festival features numerous fun events to enjoy throughout the two event weekends. Interactive sculptures are available for event attendees to climb on. In addition, several sculptures are made just for kids with a fun ice slide and an ice maze.

Palmer Lake Art Group Winter Fine Art Show
February 2-23, 2018
Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts

The annual Winter Fine Art Show features all original fine arts and hand crafted paintings and sculpture, 3D art and photography. The show is sponsored by the Palmer Lake Art Group with proceeds supporting District 38 student art scholarships.
